AEW Full Gear 2020 Predictions! (live.bleacherreport.com)

Sean Rueter

All Elite Wrestling is putting on their annual fall PPV tomorrow (Sat., Nov. 7, 2020) at Jacksonville’s Daily’s Place – Full Gear!

After a free streaming pre-show which starts an hour earlier, the event starts at 8PM Eastern, and can be purchased on B/R Live (and traditional PPV) here in the U.S. & Canada,

Last year’s show took place in Baltimore, but the pandemic will keep this one in Tony Khan’s backyard. The company has booked a solid looking show regardless, with lots of story twists and plenty of bad blood in store for us.

We’re assembling our motley crew to give thoughts & predictions on each bout on the card.

Let’s get to it.

AEW FULL GEAR PREDICTIONS

Jon Moxley (c) vs. Eddie Kingston for the AEW World title

Sean Rueter: So glad Eddie’s getting this spotlight, and am amazed at Mox’s ability to respectably carry the top belt through the pandemic era for a new company holding off on giving him the biggest possible big matches. But all the goodwill in the world doesn’t mean we’re getting a change here. Pick: Jon Moxley

Kyle Decker: Eddie Kingston feels like he doesn’t have a chance in this feud. He’s very good at getting fans interested in things and credit to that. But I do not see AEW Champion Eddie Kingston in the future. They have not built him up nearly enough for that. Pick: Jon Moxley

Rev. Claire Elizabeth: Eddie Kingston is the single most compelling man in pro wrestling today. On the mic, in the ring, period. I love Jon Moxley and I love this feud, but it’s time to to give Eddie the gold to match his talent, even if just to be a transitional champ to drop it to King Shit Cleaner Best Bout Machine Kenny Omega. WAR KING. Pick: Eddie Kingston

Cain A. Knight: The promos have been great, but the next AEW world champion is going to be Kenny Omega. Pick: Jon Moxley

Manolo H. Pizzazz: Unless harm to Renee Young is involved, I can’t fathom Moxley quitting. Kingston seems like The Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Moxley could rip all Kingston’s limbs off, and it would only be a flesh wound. I don’t have a clue how Moxley will achieve victory, but he will get the job done. Pick: Jon Moxley

Stella Cheeks: We all need to bow down to the majesty that is the Mad King. He has been one of the bright spots of a wildly uneven Dynamite these past couple months. Sadly, he is most likely not winning this match. But hey! He just said he’d quit wrestling. He can still be a manager after he loses which means we still get prime Eddie Kingston promos. Pick: Jon Moxley

The Young Bucks vs. FTR (c) for the AEW Tag Team championship

Sean Rueter: Not much new to say about the botched build for this, so I’ll just say that I still think Matt & Nick are the guys who can help Dax & Cash recapture the magic they created with American Alpha and #DIY. I also really don’t think they should have two “EVP can’t challenge for their division’s top title” stories going at once, so… Pick: The Young Bucks

Kyle Decker: I don’t know who’s going to win this, but I do know that this has been a really disappointing build for a program that should be easy. Instead, they turned the Bucks heel and tried to turn them back really fast when they realized that wasn’t the best play. And none of it worked. The stipulation that the Bucks won’t challenge again if they lose is interesting because I think it’s too early for them to win in this feud. Pick: FTR

Rev. Claire Elizabeth: I wish this was better than it is. FTR just haven’t been able to reconjure that NXT magic (restrictions do breed creativity, as it turns out) and it bums me out. That combined with the awkward heel/heel feud built mostly around how much we wanted this match two years ago makes for a lackluster title match. The Young Bucks are as good as they’ve ever been, however, and they’ve stayed out of the spotlight admirably this past year, so it’s time. Pick: Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)

Cain A. Knight: I’m thinking that over the next five years, every wrestler in AEW will become ineligible to ever challenge for any championship again. Pick: FTR

Manolo H. Pizzazz: Matt Jackson openly showed too much pain on his injured leg during Dynamite. FTR is going to pick him apart. Pick: FTR

Stella Cheeks: It would be a WILD choice to have three (or two depending on how you count) of your top stars unable to challenge for their perspective belts. Cody is already banned from challenging for the world championship and to deprive The Young Bucks from winning the tag team titles absolutely screams “too much, too soon.” I mean, Dynamite is barely a year old! That and, let’s be real, FTR has been kind of boring as champions. Pick: The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)

Kenny Omega vs. Hangman Page

Sean Rueter: Because I’ve fallen in love with the idea of the Angsty Millenial Cowboy dethroning his power mad former tag partner at All Out next year, and to get there this one should be won by… Pick: Kenny Omega

Kyle Decker: This is the only match I’m really excited for. I’ve really enjoyed what they’ve done with Hangman and Kenny since the breakup. I think Page picks up an upset win here and Omega loses his mind and beats the ever loving hell out of him until Hangman is stretchered out. Pick: Hangman Page

Rev. Claire Elizabeth: Page has a little further to go before he can really pick himself up and advance to his destiny as AEW’s crown jewel, and frankly if they sacrificed Sonny Kiss on the altar of the Cleaner only for Kenny to not become #1 contender I’ll be kinda cheesed off. Pick: Kenny Omega

Cain A. Knight: Kenny Omega won’t lose this soon after his re-invention. Pick: Kenny Omega

Manolo H. Pizzazz: Hangman has the intestinal fortitude to rise to the occasion, and cowboy shit will come exploding out. Pick: Hangman Page

Stella Cheeks: Calling it now. This is going to be the match of the night. My heart and my soul desperately want to pick Adam Page. He’s the hero we need in these trying times. However, Kenny Omega is KENNY OMEGA. Not to mention, he’s whipped out his old “cleaner” persona. It’d be pretty embarrassing for him to lose to Adam Page…which is EXACTLY why I want him to. UGH. Idk…I’m going heart here. Pick: Hangman Adam Page

Darby Allin vs. Cody (c) for the TNT championship

Sean Rueter: Should Mr. Rhodes have another short title reign? Maybe not. But I don’t think AEW would have him cut that promo about doubting Darby if they weren’t finally – after the Fyter Fest ‘19 draw and this year’s TNT title tournament loss – ready to have Cody make a guy they hope will be a really big deal for them. Pick: Darby Allin

Kyle Decker: While betting against Cody is risky, I don’t know what another Darby loss to Cody does for him. Pick: Darby Allin

Rev. Claire Elizabeth: Skateboard Sting ain’t beating the Grandson of a Plumber after that comeback against Mr. Brodie Lee, c’mon. Pick: Cody Rhodes

Cain A. Knight: I don’t understand how rolling around in a body bag prepares a wrestler for a wrestling match. But Darby has to eventually pick up a win over Cody, right? Pick: Darby Allin

Manolo H. Pizzazz: Cody has too many tricks up his sleeve to pull a fast one on Allin. Cody may be the only one referring to himself as the ace, but his actions will back it up. Pick: Cody Rhodes

Stella Cheeks: If Darby is not throwing himself out of a moving train or whatever it is he does in his free time then honestly, who cares? Pick: Cody

Chris Jericho vs. MJF

Sean Rueter: The post-World-title-Jericho-in-AEW model has been to heelishly beat a youngster before eventually putting them over. We’re still in phase one of that plan. Pick: Chris Jericho

Kyle Decker: This is a weird one. I don’t see MJF feuding with the Inner Circle because they’re both still too heelish. But he’s not a great fit either. Maybe he cheats his way in and they choose someone from the Inner Circle to be booted to start a face run – like Sammy or Santana/Ortiz. Pick: MJF

Rev. Claire Elizabeth: MJF’s gotta pick up the win here to further the Inner Circle intrigue, right? Max comes in, Sammy Guevara is on the outs but he earns Matt Hardy’s respect in their match and we get some big pyrotechnics as Sammy turns babyface and has killer trios matches teaming with Private Party. That’s the angle, book it! Pick: Maxwell Jacob Friedman

Cain A. Knight: MJF doesn’t have Jake Hager in his corner. Wardlow is going to screw this one up again. Pick: Chris Jericho

Manolo H. Pizzazz: MJF will do anything to win. Anything! The possibilities are endless. Jericho can’t possibly plan for millions of scenarios. Pick: MJF

Stella Cheeks: Legitimately hate both of these competitors, but I would like to see the look on Jericho’s face if MJF beats him. Then I want Wardlow to punch MJF in the face. Team Wardlow truly. Pick: MJF

Hikaru Shida (c) vs. Nyla Rose for the AEW Women’s championship

Sean Rueter: The main thing the division has going for it is a champ that can deliver really good matches with a wide variety of opponents. Can’t see them changing that. Pick: Hikaru Shida

Kyle Decker: Almost every PPV predictions when I pick a women’s match for AEW, I say “Well, there’s no real build to go off” and then just randomly pick someone. Nothing has changed. Pick: Nyla Rose

Rev. Claire Elizabeth: C’mon two-time champ, give mama what she needs! AEW’s women’s division is consistently underdeveloped so I wouldn’t be surprised at either outcome here, but I’m kinda thinking that Nyla’s alliance with Vickie Guerrero has to pay off somehow, so why not pick with my heart? Pick: Nyla Rose

Cain A. Knight: Shida shouldn’t lose the title until a better story is in place. Pick: Hikaru Shida

Manolo H. Pizzazz: Shida is the best. Nyla is a beast, however, she is not the best at being a beast. Looking at you Beast Incarnate. Best trumps beast. Pick: Hikaru Shida

Stella Cheeks: The AEW writers don’t seem to care about this match so why should I? Frankly, N O T H I N G is happening with Hikaru Shida as the champion and Nyla has Vicki. They’ve got to let Vicki do stuff, right? Pick: Nyla Rose

Sammy Guevara vs. Matt Hardy

Sean Rueter: Love ya, Matt, but it’s time to put this cursed feud (and “_____ Deletion” matches in general) in the rearview. Pick: Sammy Guevara

Kyle Decker: Let’s just hope they don’t actually kill each other. Pick: Sammy Guevara

Rev. Claire Elizabeth: Sammy picks up the big win and earns Matt Hardy’s respect and all that stuff I fantasy booked a couple matches ago. Pick: Sammy Guevara

Cain A. Knight: You can’t beat Matt Hardy on his home turf. How else will there be an opening for MJF to join the Inner Circle unless Guevara is deleted first? Pick: Matt Hardy

Manolo H. Pizzazz: Sammy is giving up the home-field advantage, but he more than makes up for it with youthful exuberance. Sammy will show that time has passed Hardy by. Pick: Sammy Guevara

Stella Cheeks: Four years ago I would have done a backflip at the phrase “Elite Deletion.” But here, in 2020, where everything sucks so too does Hardy’s wishywashy persona. Maybe if he loses to Guevara he’ll pick a persona and stick with it. Multifarious just ain’t what it used to be. Pick: Sammy Guevara

Orange Cassidy vs. John Silver

Sean Rueter: The outcome is a no-brainer, but hear me out… O.C. joins Dark Order and forms an odd couple tag team with Mr. Brodie Lee. Tony, DM me and I’ll let you know where to send the check. Pick: Orange Cassidy

Kyle Decker: C’mon now. Pick: Orange Cassidy

Rev. Claire Elizabeth: Look, I’ve come around on the Meat Man in a big way over the last year or two, but he’s Dark Order Butt Monkey #1 and Orange is a star. Pick: Orange Cassidy

Cain A. Knight: Orange Cassidy didn’t go over Chris Jericho multiple times just to lose against a Dark Order underling. Pick: Orange Cassidy

Manolo H. Pizzazz: Cassidy will play mind games to make Silver confused whether he is Johnny Hungiee or Johnny Thirstiee. Oranges are a very versatile fruit. Pick: Orange Cassidy

Stella Cheeks: You know what? Let’s mess it up. I want John Silver to win so that Mr. Brodie Lee has to at least pretend to be proud of him. EXTRA CHILIE’S APPS FOR EVERYONE! Pick: John Silver

Serena Deeb vs. Allysin Kay

Sean Rueter: Sleeper pick for “work of the year” if Kay said she was done with NWA just to surprise us by winning their belt back. But since I don’t think it’s that deep… Pick: Serena Deeb

Kyle Decker: Don’t think Allysin is winning a belt after she leaves the NWA, even though Sean’s “work of the year” idea is pretty spicy. Pick: Serena Deeb

Rev. Claire Elizabeth: AK needs to be a mainstay of the AEW women’s division yesterday, but winning the NWA title back isn’t going to do that. Go out there, tear the house down, get #PleaseSignAK going on the Twitter machine, and start her path to the AEW Women’s World Championship. Pick: Serena Deeb

Cain A. Knight: There won’t be a title change on a pre-show. Pick: Serena Deeb

Manolo H. Pizzazz: Deeb has been putting in work, while Kay may come in rusty. Add in increased championship confidence, and Deeb will show her NWA title win wasn’t a fluke. Pick: Serena Deeb

Stella Cheeks: I’m sorry if this is incoherent. I’m having a real hard time writing through my tears and all the hyperventilating I’m currently doing. ALLYSIN KAY IS WRESTLING ON AEW. Look, she’s the best. The best BEST. The BESTEST. I know this doesn’t mean she’s signing necessarily and I know the likelihood of her picking her championship back up is slim, but just the thought of her possibly infiltrating the AEW women’s division has got me feeling some kind of way. You know who is a power house and can turn a terrible storyline into gold? Allysin mothereffing Kay. Can we just make her AEW women’s champion now? Please? Pick: Allysin Kay

That’s who we’ve got. Who are you taking, Cagesiders?
