AEW Rankings (Mar. 10, 2021): Women’s Top 5 Is A Mess (twitter.com)

AEW released their latest rankings (Mar. 10, 2021). Let’s check out the movers and shakers.

Men:

AEW

Jon Moxley dropped from the top spot to #3 after his loss to Kenny Omega in an exploding barbed wire deathmatch. PAC and Hangman Page both rose up one spot accordingly.

AEW’s next PPV will be Double or Nothing on May 30. The inside track to challenge Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship belongs to PAC, Hangman, and Miro. Cody Rhodes is fulfilling his promise to stay away from that title scene, and Moxley is not likely to get another rematch so soon. Of course, there is always the possibility that a hall of fame talent jumps the line. Sting and Christian probably don’t need to notch too many wins to get the call to face Omega.

Women:

AEW

Red Velvet is back at #1 after falling to #2 last week. Tay Conti illogically leaped from #5 to #2. Never mind her recent loss to Nyla Rose. Rose fell from #1 to #3 after losing to Ryo Mizunami in the women’s tournament final. Mizunami’s defeat at the hands of Hikaru Shida saw her bumped from #3 to #5.

The women’s top 5 order is a mess this week. Red Velvet was pinned clean by Jade Cargill in mixed tag action with Cody Rhodes and Shaquille O’Neal. Since there is no tag division for women, sometimes tag results are taken into consideration for the two involved in the finish. That obviously was not the case this week, since Velvet is at the top. Tay Conti being above Nyla Rose is ridiculous, since Rose recently defeated Conti in the tournament. Ryo Mizunami being below Rose is also ridiculous for the same reason.

I’d put my order for the same five women as:

1. Ryo Nizunami
2. Nyla Rose
3. Dr. Britt Baker DMD
4. Red Velvet
5. Tay Conti

Despite Mizunami losing to Shida, I don’t think she should drop. Mizunami still deserves credit due to the combination of winning the tournament and nobody else establishing a better resume at this moment. The bottom line is that the women have work to do in order to create a compelling challenger for Shida’s next defense.

Tag Team:

AEW

Chris Jericho & MJF crashed from #1 to #4 after their loss to the Young Bucks. SCU rose up a spot to #1. FTR hopped over Jurassic Express. I can only assume that their trios win with Tully Blanchard was taken into account. If that is indeed the case, then it weakens Red Velvet’s argument to be the top woman. PAC & Fenix debut as a duo in the rankings to replace Top Flight at #5. The Death Triangle members earned a future title shot by winning the Casino Battle Royale at Revolution.

Do you agree with AEW’s rankings this week? If not, what would you change?
